Stampin' Up!'s Eco-Friendly Practices
Shelley Gardener, the co-founder of Stampin' Up!, is a very caring person. She really thinks about others when she makes decisions on how her company is run. When I read an article titled "Stamping Green" in our monthly magazine. It didn't surprise me that SU cares just as much about the environment as she does each one of us. Here are some of SU's environmentally friendly practices:
They donate their rubber scraps to Courage Reins, a non-profit organization that provides horseback riding therapy to physically or mentally challenged children. It is ground up for use in playgrounds and horse stables.
The wood blocks that your stamps are mounted on are from a renewable resource.
Stampin' Up!'s packaging is 100% recycled! Their cardstock also contains recycled material. The darker the pigment, the more recycled material it contains.
Both buildings in Utah are designed to reduce their environmental impact. They are designed with energy conservation in mind, they contain filtration systems, and they use native plants and artificial plants (indoors) to minimize the use of water.
The practice that most surprised me was that they carpool with other companies! For example, Sysco delivers food to Kanab, Ut (where SU's plant is located) and surrounding towns. Normally their trucks would return empty, but SU puts them to good use bringing their stamps from Kanab to Salt Lake.
Stampin' Up! is always looking for ways to improve their business practices by doing what's right for customers, demonstrators, employees, the community and the environment. I'm proud to be a part of this company!
